"Musgrave nearly even with Matsunaka in Polls"
according to Rocky Mountain News

Recent polls show
"Marilyn Musgrave
nearly even with ...
Stan Matsunaka
in the 4th District"

Rocky Mtn News,
October 28, 2002

President Bush and GOP candidates for congressional and statewide offices rallied about 3,000 Republicans on Monday at the Wings Over the Rockies museum.
The President's visit should help "get voters to the polls, although it is unlikely to give Republican candidates a boost or change voters' minds," analysts said. Outside the museum, a contingent from the Rocky Mountain Farmers Union demonstrated in support of a $6 billion drought-relief bill that has passed the Senate. Bush has said he will veto the measure, the article reported.  read the article    read more about drought relief

"I'm a Republican because I don't want the government butting in"
"The main reason I've been a Republican all these years is that I value my autonomy and my independence. I'm a Republican because I don't want the government butting into my life where it doesn't belong ..."

"That's why, as a lifelong and committed Republican, I could never support the kind of in-your-face government interference that Marilyn Musgrave represents. It would be against the principles I hold dear and against the very basis of my loyalty to good Republican values ... I oppose Musgrave because I am true to Republican values"  read more!

"This district belongs to its citizens
—not to special interests
"

"I met Stan 16 years ago, and was impressed by his integrity. His conduct in this campaign has been exemplary. Here's why, as a lifelong Republican, I'm voting for Stan:

1.

Musgrave does not represent our views

2.

Stan Matsunaka has integrity

3.

I oppose dishonest and negative campaigning

4.

This district belongs to its citizens—
not to special interests

5.

Stan is the best candidate, most diligent, best informed, and hardest working to have run in many years. He would be the best for Colorado, and the 4th District."  read full statement!

"I don't let anyone tell me who to support — farmers are very independent people"
"I should tell you that although I worked as a schoolteacher for 25 years, I grew up on a farm and I'm still a farmer at heart. And farmers are very independent people. They don't like the government or anyone else telling them what to do or how to do it."

"So what I like about Stan is that he is independent-minded, too. He looks at the broad issues, not just a narrow point of view. He thinks for himself, and is not a dogmatic Democrat. I don't like dogmatic politicians, whether they are Republicans or Democrats. Stan is very intelligent and willing to listen respectfully to both sides of an issue. I like that."  read more!

"Stan tells the truth about his record, and I like that"
"As a Republican who has actively been involved in many Republican campaigns over the years," Betty explained, " I wasn't about to support Stan Matsunaka until I knew more about him. So I did a lot of research on his voting record, and looked up information about what he said and compared it to what he actually did."  read more!

Get the facts now

"My latest polls, I'm happy to say, show that my campaign is pulling ahead. Apparently my opponent is getting a little nervous, because her campaign has started running TV ads that step over the line between fact and fiction," said Stan Matsunaka, responding to a recent blitz of negative attack ads launched by his opponent, Marilyn Musgrave.

"I invite voters to look at the facts and make up their own minds," he added.  more

Fort Morgan Times says "Negative Ads Should Go"

Fort Morgan Times says Negative Ads Should Go
Voters throughout the 4th District "have been inundated with ads and mail that are not just negative but almost hateful," says the Fort Morgan Times.

This kind of campaigning "hit a new low last week, in our view, with a mailing on Musgrave's behalf which linked Matsunaka with drug users ... We think it is long past time for the candidates themselves to step in and call a halt to this ... Wouldn't it be refreshing—and perhaps even educational and helpful to voters—if campaigns concentrated on accomplishments of candidates and positions they take on the issues of the day rather than berating or bending the truth about opponents?"  read this article    see Stan's accomplishments    see Stan's positions

Despite fundraiser Larry Pratt's ties to hate groups, Musgrave accepts his money as "legitimate"
Larry Pratt, fundraiser for the Musgrave campaign, has been linked in national press reports to hate groups such as the Ku Klux Klan and the neo-Nazi Aryan Nations as far back as 1992 (USA Today).

In fact, Pratt stepped aside as co-chairman of Pat Buchanan's presidential campaign over alleged links to racist groups. It's no secret that Larry Pratt remains linked to extremist groups today (Rocky Mountain News, 10/15/02). Why does Marilyn Musgrave continue to accept money and fundraising help from him?  more

 Greeley Tribune Endorses Stan!

"Colorado has a history of
voting fiercely independent
in the true spirit of the West.

The state is best served by
someone with a conservative
fiscal sense and a strong
sense of individual rights.

. . . these are characteristics
found in Matsunaka.

Matsunaka will make
Colorado proud."

The Greeley Tribune gives Stan Matsunka a resounding endorsement, saying that "Matsunaka typifies the West." The Greeley Tribune has endorsed the Republican candidate in every election for Colorado's 4th CD since 1972: Jim Johnson, Hank Brown, Wayne Allard, and Bob Schaffer.

The Tribune praised Stan's bipartisan approach, noting that "Matsunaka has shown an ability to work with both parties," and that "the 4th will be best served by someone who does not vote purely along party lines." Regarding Stan's opponent, the Tribune observed, "Marilyn Musgrave works too often along the fringes of her party. She has focused mainly on a conservative social agenda. She has not shown an ability to be an effective leader in the state Senate."  read it yourself!
