Palm Beach Post Highlights Renneisen Campaign
Paul F. Renneisen's decision to run as a Democrat in the 22nd District Congressional race was the subject of an article by George Bennett in the April 30 edition of the Palm Beach Post. Here are several excerpted paragraphs:
Renneisen says Klein hasn't lived up to his 2006 campaign promise to be a "congressman who leads, not follows." While Klein has voted with most House Democrats to impose a timeline for withdrawing troops from Iraq, Renneisen says District 22 voters expected more.
"He promised upon election not just to sit in the House but to lead an effort to end the war," Renneisen says. "This pulled him over the top ... to win the election. That's how upset people were with the war in 2006."
Renneisen, who served in the Air Force from 1978 to 1984, says Congress should cut off appropriations for the war. That would force military leaders to manage the "disengagement" of troops, Renneisen says. He opposes having Congress set a withdrawal timetable because he says that would be "giving away your tactics."
"Who Killed the Electric Car?"
One issue that has set Paul Renneisen apart from almost every other candidate this campaign season is his appearance at campaign events in an electric car. Electric cars provide an alternative to oil and, in doing so, strengthen our national security by taking money away from sponsors of terrorism. It's been estimated that as much as $100M per week of the funds sent to the Middle East to purchase oil falls in the hands of organizations that sponsor terrorist acts against us.
Last week, Paul Renneisen and other supporters of the electric car met in Miramar for a screening of the acclaimed documentary "Who Killed the Electric Car?" Paul, Charles Whalen and Andrew Roddy displayed and discussed their electric cars.
Renneisen Certified to Run
On Friday, May 2, the Florida Secretary of State certified that Paul F. Renneisen is eligible to run as a candidate for Congress from South Florida's 22nd District. Renneisen is a U.S. Air Force veteran, progressive Democrat, and peace advocate living in Fort Lauderdale. Now that the official qualification announcement has been made, his campaign has kicked into high gear. Please join us!
The main issue for Renneisen's campaign is ending the Iraq War. The war spending, over $4000 per second, explains the crumbling US economy, the increasingly worthless dollar, and the increasing unemployment. These economic issues translate into domestic and community violence, which are becoming a daily occurrence in our South Florida communities. more
Why I Am Running
My name is Paul F. Renneisen, and I am a Democrat running for Congress here in the 22nd District.
I have always voted for Democrats but, like many of you, I never considered politics as a career. With four kids to raise, I decided to augment my regular job by starting a small business. While keeping up with payroll and customers, I spent my personal time coaching youth baseball and volunteering for community, church and veterans groups.
In 2006, I opposed the war, so I campaigned hard for candidates who promised change, including our current Democratic Congressman. Now, like me, many of you are asking, is this the change we were voting for? Bankruptcy, foreclosure, war? What happened?
Ron Klein Has Not Delivered
The short answer is that Ron Klein has let us down. He promised peace but voted for more war. He promised insurance relief but delivered only more bureaucracy.
He said he would help our economy. As my neighbors disappear in foreclosures here on Bayview Drive, and the grass grows uncut at abandoned homes, Ron Klein takes money from special interests at a record pace. When our congressman takes money from special interests, we all pay. From drug companies to mortgage lenders, where does it stop?
My Priorities: Peace and Prosperity
It can stop with us. By voting for change, we can end special interest spending and the tax increases that are certain to follow.
I served our country as an Air Force pilot. My father served in World War II. My brother and wife are veterans as well. I understand war, and the toll it takes on families.
When war is necessary, we should all sacrifice, like the Greatest Generation did in World War II. When war is not necessary, we should bring it to an end.
Together, We Can Win
Join me in delivering a lasting homecoming victory for our troops through a peace and prosperity tax cut. When we stop paying for war and start investing in our domestic economy again, wages, pensions, and earnings are sure to rise as well.
With your help, you can elect a Congressman who will end the war and focus on the needs of the people here in the 22nd District. But we must act NOW if we want to win.
Victory Starts Today
